Detroit Movie Spoiler - Detroit is a 2017 American period crime drama film directed by Kathryn Bigelow and written by Mark Boal. Based on the Algiers Motel incident during Detroit's 1967 12th Street Riot, the film was released to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the event. The film stars John Boyega, Will Poulter, Algee Smith, Jason Mitchell, John Krasinski and Anthony Mackie.

Detroit premiered at the Fox Theatre in the titular city on July 25, 2017 and had limited theatrical release on July 28, 2017, before going wide on August 4, 2017. The film received acclaim from critics, with praise for Bigelow's direction, Boal's script and the performances of Poulter and Smith.

Detroit had a limited release in 10 markets, New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Washington D.C., Detroit, San Francisco, Houston, Atlanta and Baltimore, on July 28, 2017. Annapurna Pictures will then release the film, its first as a distributor, wide on August 4, 2017. Annapurna will handle the film's North American distribution, while Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Entertainment One will handle distribution for its international releases.

Synopsis

A police raid in Detroit in 1967 results in a multi-day riot. The story is centered on the Algiers Motel incident, which occurred in Detroit, Michigan on July 25, 1967, during the racially charged 12th Street Riot. It involves the death of three black men and the beatings of nine other people: seven black men and two white women.
